My kids love this show, but I have a few problems with it.
First of all, I've been watching my weight since I was 12. Literally all my girlhood diaries have something every day about my weight. Is it any surprise that by high school I was anorexic to the point of missing menstrual periods? I was normal weight during my adult years until about my 3rd child. Then with Raphael's birth, but no breastfeeding I'd say my weight loss was slow to stagnant. That said though, I know all about plateaus, eating right etc.
What gripes me about the show is that they have all these different body types together, men and women, and they're all expected to be competitive in their weight loss. Also other than taking measurements at the beginning of the series, and doing body fat, they essentially now only focus on the weight, which as any long-term dieter knows, can be deceptive especially in the beginning.
I hate how they keep tempting the contestants with goodies, I strongly dislike the hostess (who could stand to lose a few herself) and I wonder what the rest of America thinks about some of these folks who are working out 4 hours or more a day on a restricted diet and only lose 5 pounds in a week? I'll bet there are more than a few who are considering their own bodies hopeless, and opening the new bag of potato chips!!
Actually 5 pounds in a week, is phenomenol. Last night, it was considered a loser. I just think NBC is doing a big disservice to dieters everywhere by presenting it like that!
