Lisa Joyce from Monroe Falls gives us a hint in my local newspaper’s editorial section today:

Abortion stance

trumps all others

If a candidate who supported terrorism asked for your vote, would you say, “I disagree with you on terrorism, but where do you stand on other issues?” I doubt it. In fact, if a terrorism sympathizer presented himself for your vote, you’d immediately know that such a position disqualified the candidate for public office — no matter how good he was on other issues. The horror of terrorism dwarfs whatever good might be found in his plan for housing, education or health care. Regarding those plans, you wouldn’t even ask.

What about a candidate who claims to be Catholic and consistently votes against Catholic teaching? He says he personally doesn’t believe in abortion, that he does believe life begins at conception, and he still votes to keep abortion legal, including the most gruesome of all — “partial-birth” abortion — every time it comes up.

Neither presidential candidate is perfect, but, by George, President Bush certainly has the most important issue right. Because, like blessed Mother Teresa said: As long as a mother is allowed to kill her own child, there will never be peace.
