Two cute things happened with my kids this week.

My oldest got his first love letter! This girl is nothing if not persistent. A 7th grader who goes to my church and use to be my flute student. She’s a nice girl, but she wasn’t particularly motivated to practice and after about 6 months of my time her mother cancelled lessons. I think in retrospect this is to her deep regret because weekly lessons in my home meant she got to see my oldest son in his natural habitat every week!

Anyway, she use to call regularly, leave messages on the machine etc. until my husband answered the phone one time and told her that Calvin is not allowed to date until he’s married and that it’s not nice for girls to call boys.

Undaunted, this young lady apparently devised a plan. She had a flyer for a school dance that she folded up, wrote the church’s return address our address and sent it to us. Now, at first I just thought this was some more paper from church and even though it was addressed to my son, I ripped it open because I am the keeper of the family calendar and if I don’t put it on the calendar – it ain’t gonna happen. However, at the bottom of the flyer was a note to Calvin about how she was going to be there, what she was going to be wearing, and oh yes…”Can we hold hands.” It was also signed with her name and a cute little heart.

This poor girl has it bad!!

On closer inspection this girl was quite clever. The return address for the church in the corner did make me think it was from the church. However she put us down as an Avenue instead of a Street and she used the wrong zip code… but the big give away… NO STAMP! My husband and I think she got on her little bike before or immediately after school and peddled up here about 2 miles one way, to put it on our mail box. Now that’s determination!!

My other boy, the first communion kid, made $90 last week. Not too shabby!! He wanted to go to the bank and open up a savings acount so we did. He answered a lot of questions from the bank lady and then handed over his sweaty, wadded up gob of cash. She giggled. She gave him a very nice impressive looking savings book in a blue vinyl pocket portfolio and Gabe was very grateful.

When we were walking out of the bank Gabe said, “Now I’m special…I’m a banker!!!” Yes you are sweetie!
